Friday's ride was fast, lots of wind, mostly tailwinds. Got to camp
well before noon, even with a wait at the ferry for Bill. Yes, we took
a ferry across the Ohio River into Illinois. In fact we took it back
this morning as the closest town of any size was in Kentucky. We've
had a great day here in Marion, KY. Bill in the library doing internet
stuff, me shopping and talking to family on the phone. It is amazing
how fun it is to do something other than ride the bike! Saw Amish
folks both on the highway and in town with horse and buggy. Biking is
faster! Big news---we got another fan!!! Last night I slept in the
tent thinking it would be breezy being outdoors, wrong. I could hear
the trees rustling, but on the ground it was dead still and hot. Stars
were out but I could see lightening flashing off to the North, far
away, most of the night. Fireflies were out too, still a surprise to
see them. We are camped at Cave in Rock which does in fact have a cave
in a rock right on the banks of the Ohio River. The park is right at
the edge of town and we have enjoyed the local cafe for both dinner
(catfish, hush puppies, cole slaw, beans, cornbread, broccoli; didn't
have room for sawdust pie--bananas, coconut, pecans, eggs and whipped
cream?) and back for breakfast. Local charm is abundant and fun to
listen to. There is a carnival in town so it's jumping, all 300+
residents. People are so friendly and helpful. Tomorrow will start
moving WEST, yahoo. Sally
Bill says it's too hot to type so he has nothing to add, he's right.

wow--I want to go there for sawdust pie!

We can see where all the heat is on the national weather map...it's sure not here in Oregon!

It's so fun to keep reading, though I'm not leaving a lot of comments!

I'm going to try again although I don't know how to do this! Last night Jim and I ate dinner at Mimi's and talked with Slade, a young man riding his bike east from Astoria on the transcontinental route. I told him to wave at Sally and say hi if they passed!

Also Linda says they will be in South Dakota in July and would love to see you or SAG or ride or whatever if timing works out. No, I don't know when in July.

Just read and enjoyed greatly the past week's blogs. Plan to go to Madras for a couple days Wed. or Thur.

Actually, D'Anne again...

Well, except for the occasional rattlesnake bite, everything seems to be fine back home.

Jeesh!

So nice catching up with your 3 guys last nite at Kelsie's party. I'm trying to set up a time to have them over for dinner, but it may take a bit to get our calendars together.

Take care & don't worry too much...Dan says no more snake grabbing for a while :-)

What is this tailwind of which you speak? I don't think I've experienced that.
