LOBAA13 Linden, Alabama

5/29/08 Thu CDT
LOBAA13 - Chickasaw State Park - Linden, Alabama
Sally bike mileage - 89.87 miles, 6:58:35 time
Sally total - 790.5 miles
Bill bike mileage - 30 miles
Bill total - 386 miles
Finally a great day of riding. The roads were quiet with only me 95%
of the time (except the last little bit), what a relief. I also took a
nap at the mid-day rest stop, I'd done 67 miles and was pooped as the
day was warming and the shade disappearing. About half way through the
day the woods changed from the jungly swampy type to woods you could
actually walk through. The houses have changed too. Smaller, fewer
rocking chairs on porches, fewer porches, even trailer houses showing
up. The countryside is still smattered with churches. Pretty little
ones, all have steeples. Very scenic. It's so different because there
may be no obvious homes around or only one or two and up pops a
church. It'd be fun to see a busy one on a Sunday. People are very
friendly, interested in what we are doing. One lady saw us parked in
the shade and tried to give us $5! "God just told me to do it" We
convinced her we were OK and someone else could use the $. We laughed
to think how we look, homeless and resting by the road. Bill is trying
to convince me that armadillos aren't gross, but they are disgusting,
at least dead which is how I'm seeing them. Well mosquitos are finding
me typing here at the picnic table at dusk, so time to sign off. The
enormity of what we're trying to do is really setting in. More roads
like today will sure help.
Bill here - a few things to add. We got a really early start today. We
were on our bikes at 6:15 a.m. Also, on my way back to retrieve the
rig, the little pooch that we saw yesterday mysteriously reappeared as
I neared the campsite and hung around all morning. A very cute and
friendly little guy.
