LOBAA16 - Aberdeen, Mississippi

6/1/08 Sun CDT
LOBAA16 - Blue Bluff Recreation Area - Aberdeen, Mississippi
Sally bike mileage - 90.05 miles, 6:32:49 time
Sally total - 955.2 miles
Bill bike mileage - 37.6 miles
Bill total - 439.7 miles
Todays ride clicked off without a hitch. We were riding by 5:45 which
made all the difference. At mile 30 I crossed into Mississippi, even
took a timed photo as Bill says we have to have a picture at every
state line. Although it's 90 or so the air is a bit dryer and the
breeze even feels fresh. We are camped right on a lake, too bad it's
muddy and totally uninviting. Fish are plopping, but no poles, so
we'll just listen. Bill was riding out of camp just a mile before I
arrived so I turned around and we went to town for something cold. All
in all my mileage ended up 10 miles more than I expected, but I feel
great. All will be fine if my bike gear shifter holds up. We called
Sellwood Cycle from camp yesterday when we were buffaloed by the
sporadic working/not working gear shifter. They were a great help and
we got it going again, but it could be terminal at any time. So we're
scouting for a bike shop, which so far haven't been available. It
really slows me down when I can't get into high gear, but I suppose I
can still make it. Let's hope it hangs in there. Other stuff: No need
to take a towel to shower as it's much more comfortable to be wet, but
it doesn't last long anyway. In camp I just wear a swimsuit all the
time. Luckily the bugs haven't been too bad. We keep fans going in
Cramalot all night to move air, they are a life-saver for sleep.
That's really the only reason we use electricity in camp (and we can
use them off the battery if need be) as the little refrigerator
generates so much heat it's not worth it. I still haven't gotten an
ice-cream cone! but ice-cream sandwiches are a fine substitute. I'm
getting quite a biker's tan even though I lather with sunscreen. This
town we're next to has some huge old southern style homes, sure would
be fun to go inside, or even sit and rock on the porch! Sally
