Sally:
Another quiet morning in Wyoming. The wind didn't start until around
11 o'clock and not strong like the first day. It did make me glad to
be in camp early. Boy did we find a great spot today! We are in
Sweetwater Station, Wyoming camping at a Mormon Historic Site on the
Oregon Trail. They maintain the nicest little oasis in the midst of
miles of desert. We are camped next to a shaded picnic table with
green grass all around, well water nearby and clean, flush toilets.
And there is no charge to stay here. What more could you want? Oh and
internet service! Bill always checks and we are often surprised. Today
saw lots and lots of antelope, country is high desert with the Teton
Mts peaking out in the distant West. We'll be in them in two days.
Riding has been good with gentle hills and lots of down or flat. We
are right in the midst of the Oregon Trail and are beginning to see
landmarks the pioneers used to find their way. Today it was Split
Rock, a crack that shows up for miles. I did see a sign to
Independence Rock, but it was 20 miles and on a bike that's too far. I
am so happy to have a bike and a paved road, can't imagine what the
pioneers endured or even how they made it at all. The two crossings of
the Continental Divide I did today were barely noticeable. So once
again we are in the Atlantic drainage.
Bill:
One little problem with our oasis that we discovered once the wind
died down are the mosquitos. Yipes ! Anyway, it is a really nice place
and is warmer than it has been in a while at this time of evening. We
have fired up the fans again but hope we can turn them off at bedtime.
Wally has rediscovered his youth on this trip ... nipping at my heels
when we jog like a true herding dog. He still has to be lifted in and
out of Jimmy because of his arthritic rear end but is eating better
and becoming quite the camping pooch. In addition to the deer and the
antelope playing, I also saw a couple of coyotes along the road, one
with a fresh kill in his mouth. Two riding milestones today - I
finally reached the 1000 mile mark and Sally reached the 3000 mile
mark in our little sojourn across the land. Hope my younger twin
siblings had a happy BD today.

Congrats on your milestones today... wow 1000 & 3000 miles ! You planned it that way so it would be on Paul's & my birthdays! I am guessing July 17th arrival to Pacific Ocean date so it will be 2 months start to finish! Another WOW!

Love, Peggy

Hi - Dr. Glenn Rodriguez just mentioned your adventure to me and I had to check it out! Believe it or not I camped at Sweetwater junction almost a year ago to the day on my own X-Country bike ride! (same mosquitoes too) Will have to drill down on your adventure and check out previous posts. You can view mine from a year ago at http://spiritone.com/~carpjam/transam07.html

Cheers & best of luck! - Jim

Wally has always been youthful he has just had you fooled Bill, he liked being lifted in and out of Cramaolot...who's the smart one here?

The people who moved from Wy to Oregon settled in Hood River because they missed the wind!
Ride safe bill and Sally!
