Today can be summed up with one word: WIND. And I'm afraid there is
more to come. It's blowing mostly from the west which today was mostly
side/head winds. The side winds are the most nerve-wracking as they
move me sideways when they gust or when a truck passes. I just hang on
tight and try to stay low. I suppose I'll get used to it. Actually the
day started beautifully with a gradual climb to our second crossing of
the continental divide. I looked ahead and I have to do this 3 more
times, only one of which is a tough one. You'd think you could get
west by crossing it once and for all. Anyway this morning we slept in
since it was freezing (literally) outside. Started riding at 8 and
thankfully the sun found us within a half hour or so. We rode up a
beautiful valley with Willow Creek meandering through low willow
meadows. Saw deer, but no moose. Darn. Bill rode to the summit with me
and then headed back to wrap up camp. Tonight we are at another forest
service campground which is small and pleasant. We had time to hike
down to the North Platte River and explored the canyon a bit.
Apparently this is a "blue-ribbon trout stream". Looks treacherous to
float to me, but it is done and there are nice grassy campsites. Bill
got photos of 3 white pelicans we saw on the river. Let's hope Wyoming
is kind to us.
Bill:
The ride to the summit at the continental divide (9621') was not so
bad and it didn't seem as steep as I thought it would be. The temp when
we left camp at about 7:30 a.m. was 39 degrees but when I got back to
camp (at about 9:15) it was in the 70's. Have not had web service or
cell service for several days so it was nice to be able to finally
post to the web and check our email and web comments. Posted more
photos to the site.

Bill, surely you could have ridden just 0.8 mile more to post your 1000 !!!!! LOVE the pictures! Kind of different from HOT Florida! (which probably seems like centuries ago now!) Stay safe!

Love, Peg
