Sally:
Off to the best start yet today. Breakfast at the Summervill's.
Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, poppyseed muffins with lemon glaze,
fruit salad, juice, coffee and we ate as much as possible! Marge
packed us left-overs from dinner last night which included the last
piece of the best strawberry pie ever. Wow did it all taste great in
camp tonight! Well fueled and easy riding today with a slight wind
from the SE helping me along. It was a bit cooler and just a great day
to ride. Arrived in Nickerson at 2:30 but the next camp is another 30
miles along. The city park is well-shaded and has been a very pleasant
place to spend the afternoon. Bill found there was internet in the air
so we are even on-line right here. Pretty up-town! A local in the
library shouted out "Where are you from?" as I walked in to use the
restroom. He proceeded to fill me in on various riders he's talked to
and his adventure when he was young---canoeing the Mississippi River
from Canada to the Gulf. Enthusiasm plus from this gray-haired gent.
Also said their storm-warning siren has been going off every other
night for the last 3 weeks. Looks uneventful tonight, let's hope
that's the way it stays. I've been enjoying the birds in Kansas,
especially the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher which has a very fancy tail.
Roads have had very light traffic and hills non-existent so I'm
sailing right along. Fields of corn, wheat, soybeans and alfalfa with
oil derricks scattered amongst. Also lots of fat cattle in lush
pastures.
Bill:
Only a few things to add to Sally's write-up. The park where we are
camped sits near a huge grain silo as a backdrop. There was a softball
game in the adjacent field but they have now left and it is very
peaceful here. Sally used our solar shower this afternoon and the
water was almost too hot. Sally stole my thunder on dinner ... I was
going to brag about the meal I prepared this evening and at the end
give Marge her full credit. Anyway, the bbq meatballs, potatoes au
gratin, pasta salad and strawberry pie were a real treat. I have
reorganized the photos (again !) and grouped them by LOBAA number -
hope it helps. Will try to keep each group of photos to around 50.
