Bill:
We can describe today in one word - rain. Woke up to thunder and
lightening but it cleared up around 7:30 a.m. so Sally set out. I
decided not to ride because I am the sag driver and can do what I want
(riding wise that is). So I spent the morning fixing a leak in
Cramalot's plumbing, showered, packed up and set out after Sally.
Caught up to her about 35 miles down the road in the rain ... she
wanted to continue so I waited for her in the small town of Rosalia
about 5 miles further up the road. Then lightening started up again so
I popped up Cramalot and Sally put on some dry clothes and we waited
out the storm. In the meantime, we typed emails, drank hot chocolate
and slept. OK it is now later and we finally got Sally back on the
road again after some pizza at a small local restaurant with a
talkative farmer/proprietor. We had planned to ride off-route today to
Marion, KS and stay the parents of Robin Totten who is a friend of Sally's from work
but Sally had a flat and the rain and it was getting late
so we packed her bike back onto Cramalot and drove to Robin's parent's  (Mick & Marge
Summerville) large farm about 30 miles away where we were treated
to a wonderful dinner, a tour of the town of Marion, the use of
their washer and dryer, 2 wonderful beds and a magnificent breakfast.
Marge even gave us some food for the trip so I don't have to cook
Tuesday night much to my (and Sally's I'm sure) relief. Mick really took to Wally and took him for a short walk near a creek on his property where Wally promptly fell in the creek - or maybe he jumped in, we aren't really sure. The town of Marion
is a cute little town with a dam and lake, a nice downtown area with a
very nice central park and statues of rhinoceros' all over the place.
Oh, did I mention that Chanute's animal of choice is the giraffe?
Thought Peg might enjoy that. So, that's it ... the library I am at
has a 1 hour time limit so I better get this sent. Sally is on ahead
so she can add further notes on Tuesday's blog.

Did you find out WHY Chanute's animal of choice is the giraff? Glad to hear you did not get flushed away on your birthday! and that you had a great sounding B&B last night! Way to go!
