LOBAA10 - Big Lagoon State Park near Gulf Beach, Florida

The day started early, got up at 5 and were on the road in 20 minutes
after yet another good-bye to our most excellent SAG driver/host for
the state of Florida, cousin/sister Peg :-( Immediately crossed the
time zone and it was suddenly 4:30! Had to drive back to where I'd
last finished riding so it took awhile. We were riding by 6:30 or so.
Bill rode to the Waffle House and we chowed down. Good thing as I
ended up riding so far. It wasn't a fun ride, but the day went along
fine. Lots of traffic and maybe 8 miles of really rough shoulder. Also
6 miles of bike trail where I saw lots of cyclists and got some good
info from a couple who I rode with for a bit. Took some nice breaks,
Bill even got the chairs out and we sat down. Sure revives you to stop
awhile. Made it to the Pensacola area and saw lots of water in the
huge bay or barrier islands or whatever I was looking at. Stopped at
Veterans Memorial Park with life-like statues of soldiers and
memorials to various wars. Very fitting for Memorial Day. At one point
there was a slew of people pulled over, cops and TV camera guys. Turns
out a military fellow was missing and they had just pulled out his
body. Aren't you glad I told you that. Anyway we made it to camp at
Big Lagoon State Park and it even had some shade. Supposedly there
were alligators in the swamp around the camp, but we couldn't find
any. Did see gorgeous white sand and looked across the bay to big high-
rise hotels along the beach. As always we were happy to have a home
for the night.
