Recent emails

For continuity, here are excerpts from recent emails involving planning for LOBAA that were sent before the establishment of this blog.

From Bill to Sally:
Don't think Candace liked my first cut at the 2010 cross country bike tour name ( SCABs) so how bout going with a tried and true theme - LOBAA - Lost On Bikes Across America? We can start the ride in Winchester Bay so you can dip your tires in the Pacific Ocean and then somewhere enroute to Jax, we will find a place to dip your tires in the Atlantic. Was looking on Google Maps to get a general route idea and was thinking of going straight across Oregon thru Madras and Halfway, then heading towards the Badlands of S Dakota which is so scenic and then start heading southward through St Louis (and a visit to Julie) and towards Florida. What do you think ? Do you have any places or folks that you would like to visit or any general route preference? Presume you will both be anxious to get home after the ride, so you guys can both fly home if you like and I will drive the rig and bikes and pooch back. Since I am going to be doing the driving, cooking, bike maintenance etc, I would like to keep the group as small as possible - two cyclists (you and Candace), one sagger (me), and one dog is perfect for my current setup of Jimmy, Wally and Cramalot Inn but who knows what the future brings and 3 years is a long way off.

From Sally to Bill:
My, how exciting to have you already planning a route. Yes, I'm in agreement with the Oregon part of the route. And heading to Florida makes good sense. I do have a friend in Ohio I'd love to see if it fits. She lives in Amesville near Athens in southern Ohio. But if it doesn't fit she might even meet us somewhere. My other far away friend is in Connecticut, probably way out of the way. Again she might meet me somewhere if conducive to fun visit. I need to look at these United States of ours and get the geography in mind. I am totally happy with you, Candace and me. If this gets too exciting we may have to move it up a year--2009??? I don't know that I'd need to fly home. I'm expecting to either be done working or take a long leave of absence. Maybe I could get Doug to fly out and drive back with us or something. Details, details. Right now it's fun to think of the route and all we will see. Glad you have some insight and good ideas. The badlands sound super too.
