Sally:
Happily today's ride was a breeze--tailwinds until the last hour! Sure
makes a difference in effort. Rode through Craters of the Moon Nat'l
Monument to Fairfield, right past the road to Sun Valley. Hillsides
were still green and altho the sky was hazy the backdrop of the
mountains (Sawtooth?) made it a pretty ride. The Fairfield city park
was very nice with lots of large trees and green grass. We could have
camped there, but fireworks are scheduled for 9:30 tonight and we
weren't interested in the crowds and noise. So now we're about 10
miles out of town in the Nat'l Forest camped in a shaded ski area
parking lot! The campground was full, so looks like this is where
we'll spend the night. We've got shade, a breeze, aspen trees and a
creek nearby. Not bad.
Bill:
This day shall be known as no picture day as neither of us used our
cameras. After all the beautiful scenery of the past few days, it was
hard to get enthusiastic about taking photos. Also, very few animals
as well .. I saw 1 coyote and Sally saw an antelope. On the way into
Fairfield we found this cool little coffee house that also advertised
that they had ice cream and bathrooms - so that was perfect and we
stopped. In addition this place was celebrating its 1 year
anniversary and everything was half price. A little trivia from the
past. Ten years ago I rode a bicycle across the country from Seattle,
WA to Washington, DC. It was a shorter route than LOBAA and yesterday
(day 48 of LOBAA) would have been the last day of our ride (day 48 of
the GTE Big Ride Across America). Interestingly, Sally's total
distance on day 48 was almost the same as mine on day 48 - 3462 miles
vs 3375 miles. Of course, Sally has several weeks to go on her more
distant route. Another similarity between the 2 rides is that sister
Peg assisted on both rides! Thanks Peg!

Sure wish I could join you & Ed & now maybe Kay in Oregon for the last part of the trip! When you mentioned Ed's blowout, it all came back to me! That was a fun bike ride in Oregon! Oh well...see you in August instead!
