Sally:
Started the earliest yet, it was barely light enough to ride at 5:15
a.m. We set an alarm to be sure we got up, first time of the trip. I
still woke just a little before the alarm. The camp host had told me
that they were chip-sealing the road about 15 miles from camp and I
wanted to try to get through it before they started again for the day.
Turns out they didn't work at all today I guess because of the holiday
weekend. So that was a relief. Still had a long day and by mid-day it
was really getting hot. Bill had set up Cramalot for a good break from
the sun and we took a great break around noon. Riding out from there
only 5 miles or so down the road was a real rest area with bathrooms
and I saw Bill pulled over again. I decided to stop too and use the
facilities when suddenly BLAM my rear tire blew up! It was instantly
completely flat. Wow was I ever glad I was within 100 yds of Bill! No
stress for me as Bill did the work and we even had shade and a nice
breeze. Couldn't have planned it better if I tried. So all continues
to fall into place for us at every turn. We are in a very nice little
RV park tonight with very friendly owners. The fellow plans to ride
his bicycle from Glacier Nat'l Park to Michigan as soon as he sells
this place! We also ate out at the local diner and it sure hit the
spot! Much better than cooking on a hot night. Even had fresh
strawberry shortcake. Also learned today that friend Ed is joining us
next week to ride with us for 4 days. Yeah!!!
Bill:
Sally road her second highest mileage of the trip at her highest
average speed of the trip - 15.7 mph in heat hot enough to blow up a
tube. It is ironic that we found out today that Ed is joining us in
Oregon next week as it was Ed whose tire we last heard blow up on a
ride in blistering heat we did several years ago. Oh, and you can now
substitute moose for bear in yesterdays rhyme. Yesterday's campsite
was the best shot we had at seeing moose as the campground host said
they had been seen in camp recently and Sally and Doug had previously
been to this campsite and saw moose.

Did you get my email about places to camp in Vale and STrawberries? I've been surprised not to hear back about your plans for that stretch. Karl went swimming in the pond yesterday...first swimmer!
Woops. Now why did it call me anonymous instead of Kay??
Yup ... got your email, Kay ... thanks. Also got your latest email where you said you might join us . And guess you figured out the anonymous bit as your last comment said Kay. See u soon.
