Bill:

News flash - just posted a bunch more photos... now on to the daily news.

Up as dawn was cracking again and up the first hill right out of camp.
I'm not a good climber but I'm REALLY not a good climber that early in
the morning. Also had some headwinds which picked up substantially as
tailwinds on my way back to Cramalot. The hills weren't nearly as bad
in that direction! A lot of climbing for Sally today but she took it
in stride and it didn't seem to bother her. We started at about 4700
ft and we are now camped at about 8600 ft. About 5 miles out of
Guffey, a small thunderstorm caught up with us which had a small bit
of slushy snow in it. But Sally powered on and was very cold when she
got to town. But a warm Cramalot Inn and 2 cups of hot chocolate and a
nap brought her around. Tomorrow, Sally will climb over the
continental divide and be at the highest point of the trip at 11,542
ft. The town of Guffey is a hoot as is our host ... his name is Bill
(of course) and he didn't ask for any money for our stay. He says
"Just leave a donation to the towns historical society if you like"
and he gives us the key to the City Hall which houses the town's
historical society. So, this is the first town where we were given the
Key to the City.
Sally:
Today was a scenic ride. Looking at the foothills of the Rockies until
mid-way when the snowy peaks showed up in the background. Saw
antelope, mule deer, more prairie dogs, lots of birds singing here in
camp, but I don't know what they are. The birds have been getting me
up early as they start singing while it is still dark out and then I
think it's morning. It is good to start early with these afternoon
thunderstorms. Didn't quite beat it today. I was determined to ride to
camp as i knew it'd be really hard to start again if I quit and cooled
down. It was the first cold rain of the trip, but knowing Cramalot
would be there for me at the end made it fine. I stripped and jumped
into my sleeping bag as soon as we got set up and warmed right up. We
are staying amidst the strangest assortment of old stuff (claw-foot
bathtubs, metal bed frames, old cooking stoves to name a bit) which is
all surrounded with a hodgepodge of shacks made of logs and tin. The
facilities are an outhouse complete with window, curtain and mirrors,
oh and wooden seat covered with contact paper! and a cool shower room
that is unfortunately not functional due to frozen pipes recently (was
32 here last night Bill said). We had a delicious hamburger (and beer
for me, sure tasted good) at the local bar/cafe. Do you notice how we
are always talking/thinking about food? Well that's part of the fun of
all this exercise. I can certainly feel that my legs are much
stronger, thanks to the previous 2500 miles. The altitude and hills
tomorrow will let me know just how strong.

Is that Wally that you have your hand in his mouth?
Guffey looks like quite a place. Good for you, Sally, being able to take those hills with no problem. Mom

Wow! You guys are spunky! What tremendous changes in climate you are having = from heat to snow in a couple of days! Glad to read that you are having some good meals - keep that up.

We walked by your house today Bill - all is ok.

Hi Wally! Stan & Betty & Perry

Congradulations on the Cont. Divide a major achievement! I guess every thing is down hill from now on. Ride side safe Bill and Sally!

We crossed over the continental divide again today and we have one more crossing. Altitude in the 9000's so not so high. We both rode to the divide and I hit my 1000th mile as Sally approaches her 3000th.
